COMPanionship Christmas initiative.

COMPanionship is a new initiative by Transition Year students at St Patrick’s Comprehensive. The project will be in two phases, during phase one students will deliver Christmas decorations to local nursing homes including Carrigoran.
The young students have been busily hand-crafting Christmas cards, logs, snowmen, ornaments and candles to brighten up the rooms of elderly residents in Carrigoran House as well as bringing festive cheer to large communal areas.
For the second phase, the students are developing a website to help keep the elderly in touch with what’s happening locally. Included on the website are videos taken by students of their everyday activities including walks, baking, gardening, telling short stories and reciting poetry.
Some of the content will feature videos and images taken by students and staff to bring residents on a virtual walk to The Point or on a tour of the new Town Park.
All this local material will be brought together on the website to engender a sense of COMPanionship with our elderly neighbours and friends throughput lockdown and while they are cocooning.

A few years ago I got sick and after several surgical interventions as well as the ongoing lockdown, it has led to mainly staying at home.”
