  • Maud Conroy from Tulla and Mciahel Donovan from Carrick-on-Suir celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary after 60 years together. It was love at first sight when they met at the Garryowen Irish Club in Hammersmith 61 years previously . They had both been working in London since the early 1930s and went out together for 12 months before walking down the aisle of Strawberry Hill Church in Twickenham on September 5, 1938. They initially made their home in London but moved back to Ireland at the outbreak of the Second World War, settling in Tulla where they raised six children. Now in their early 80s, they have 29 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren - October 2, 1998. Photograph by John Kelly
