  • Derek Hockedy (right) with his sister Jennifer and Denis Bowe returned to the Doonbeg Jazz Festival to renew a family tradition. Year after year their dad Harry would bring the family to the West Clare festival where he played with the Downtown Dixieland Band. A well known drummer and jazz aficionado, Harry died in October 2021, just seven months after his beloved wife Ita. For Derek and Jennifer, this year began with another family tragedy, when their brother Alan died from cancer in January. For this family, the Doonbeg Jazz Festival was an occasion to renew old friendships, enjoy the music of their childhood and make some new memories.<br />
