An old torso of a plastic doll placed on the partition between classrooms in the old Kinturk National school, closed in the late 1960's. With children around the country preparing to go back to school after the Summer holidays, a visit to the old West Clare schoolhouse reminds us of a time when school was a very different place, with outdoor toilet facilities, a yard with boys on one side and girls on the other and an open fireplace in the classrooms.
